Educational Goal: Update participants about political "hot topics" in healthcare and the upcoming Texas legislative session.

Educational Objectives:

1. Recognize the importance of becoming involved in the legislative and political process

2. Discuss issues relating to health care and pharmacy that will be discussed during the 2011 legislative session

3. List challenges to healthcare that will result from the anticipated budget shortfall

4. Describe possible legislative solutions and reactions to the federal healthcare reform law that will arise during the next Texas Legislative Session

Target audience: pharmacists and pharmacy technicians

The Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.  This Knowledge- based continuing professional education program (0156-9999-10-066-L03-P/0156-9999-10-066-L03-T) provides 1 contact hour (0.1 CEUs) of continuing pharmacy education for pharmacists and technicians, respectively.  To receive a Statement of Participation, a program evaluation form must be completed and turned in at the end of the program, and a $10 processing fee must be paid by non-TSHP members, to receive a Statement of Attendance from TSHP.
