Upcoming "mark your calendar" dates are: a joint meeting with CAPA on September 15 at Freda's Seafood Grill in North Austin. My CE Center will provide the CE and the topic will be on Type 2 Diabetes.
Also, mark your calendar for the AASHP Annual Seminar on October 22 (click here to download a flyer). The seminar will be held at the Texas A&M Health Science Building in Round Rock and check in will be on the second floor. Paypal registration links are on the home page.
Finally, mark your calendars for Wednesday November 9. TSHP lobbyist Brad Shields and TSHP President Sidney Phillips will be here to discuss the upcoming legislative session and how we can get involved. This will also be a CE meeting.
I want to thank the AASHP members who have volunteered to work at the Volunteer Healthcare Clinic in July. Those members are: Julie Krapfel (two nights!! WOW!), Berni Patterson, Mitch Lestico, Thu Le and myself.
I will be sending out a request soon for all our members to contribute to the Austin Area Society of Health System Pharmacists scholarship with the TSHP Research and Education Foundation. If all of our members contributed $25-$50, we could get the endowment up to the $30,000 needed to be able to offer a $1000 scholarship. AASHP will match all funds donated by our members up to $4,000. We need to raise $8,000. Here are words from our 2016 scholarship winner, Qasim Adil: "Growing up in a low-income family with 5 children, I wasn't expected to accomplish much or even go to college. For the first two years of my education, I was lucky enough to have access to federal and state funding which made paying for school a little bit easier. However, this year those funds have run out and I'm so grateful to TSHP for stepping in and helping me fill the gap! To me, being the recipient of this scholarship means being recognized for working to advance the profession of pharmacy and enhance
patient care every day! Having these funds available frees me to allocate my time to volunteer activities and serving the underserved while reducing the stress that comes along with trying to fund my education."
Finally, updated bylaws have been posted on the website, along with the last revision of the AASHP constitution:
